Hey guys,
I usually don't recommend books because frankly, I've read lots of books but I've not found very many that totally get my attention. I read a book this week that did just that. It's called "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. If you've not read it, I recommend it. The summary might sound a bit weird, and for a long time, I avoided buying this book, but once I started it, I was hooked.

Well, to be honest, it's one of those that if I start telling you, I'll give it away. It's set in the early 1960's in Mississippi. The story shifts between three characters. One character is a young woman whose mother will not rest until she's married, an african-american lady who works as a maid, but has a mouth on her which keeps her from keeping a job, and another african-american woman who helps raise white women's babies. In a twist of events, the three women's paths collide and the results are awesome. OK, that's all I can really say without getting too into the story. It might sound goofy, but honestly, this book really made me think.

Along those lines, you may like The Heaven of Mercury, by Brad Watson.

I found The Help a very enjoyable read, too. It held my attention. That bit with the toilets in the yard was hilarious!

I'll be keeping an eye out for her next book.
